Husky sledging expedition to a wilderness cabin in the arctic circle. Drive your own sled through frozen lakes and pristine pine forests. Explore the wilderness by Swiss army style cross country skis. Enjoy Arctic picnics, The Ice Hotel, snow roll saunas and, fingers crossed, the Northern Lights.
Day 1 On arrival at Kiruna airport you will go straight to the kennels, meet the huskies and then speed through the dark to this isolated cabin. The cabin is a true wilderness experience, away from people, roads and noise. Water is collected from below the ice in a nearby brook and candles light the cabin. It’s heated by wood stoves and the beds are laid out as ‘bunks’.
Day 2 After breakfast you will set off on Swedish army style cross country skis through this extraordinary landscape. The trails vary from narrow, meandering runs through thick forests to the freedom of vast frozen lakes. On your journey today, lunch is taken on the trail – a real Arctic picnic. On the move again, you’ll meander your way back to the wilderness cabin for another overnight stay. There will be a chance for a pre-dinner sauna and hopefully an after-dinner view of the Northern Lights.
Day 3 You’ll be woken by the sound of howling dogs as they enjoy their breakfast in the early morning. After enjoying your own breakfast, you’ll need an early start to get the most out of your dog sled back to the kennels. Once back at the Lodge you can freshen up and enjoy a last night celebratory dinner at the lodge.
Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast you will then be taken to the nearby Ice Hotel for a tour and buffet lunch. The Ice Hotel is a constant -5 degrees centigrade no matter what the temperature outside making it comfortable to stay in and walk around. Each year the Hotel melts and they rebuild it so every room is different to the last. (Entry and lunch fee to be paid by participants direct to the hotel. They take cards so no need for cash).
You will then be driven to the airport ready to fly home after this action packed Arctic adventure.
